Assembled by the composer, the libretto for the cantata consists of articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and from the public statements of Mahatma Gandhi, Senator John Lewis, Frederick Douglass, and Nelson Mandela, among others.Woven throughout is the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt, whose words were chosen with the help of Roosevelt biographer Blanche Wiesen Cook.

Scored for large mixed chorus, children’s chorus, mezzo-soprano and baritone soloists, and orchestra, the 50-minute-long plea for social justice celebrating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be premiered at Carnegie Hall on 16 December 2023 under the direction of maestro Mark Shapiro.
