In 2017, Daron begins his third season as Chair of the Composition Program for the Wintergreen Music Academy. This summer, twelve composers will be invited to spend two weeks atop Wintergreen Mountain in Virginia, where they will compose, share music, oversee recordings of their works, and receive instruction from Hagen and composer faculty member Gilda Lyons. Hagen's 2015 instrumental accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin's The Tramp was a great success, and served to launch what has become an ongoing "movie night" at the Wintergreen Festival. (Learn more about that piece here.) The world premiere screening will be preceded by the 2017 edition of the Wintergreen Composers' Retreat Exquisite Corpse in which all twelve festival composers will create in tandem a new score to The Vagabond, a 1916 silent film by Charlie Chaplin that co-starred Edna Purviance, Eric Campbell, Leo White and Lloyd Bacon. Chaplin appeared as The Tramp.
