Hagen’s setting of Once in Royal David’s City supports Cecil Frances Alexander’s (slightly adapted) lyric from 1848 with five original variations on Irby, the source tune from the 1840s. This is an arrangement for string orchestra (Grade 5) of the original version for solo cello and treble voices in Silent Night.
