Program Note:
New instrumental trio versions of various movements from other works (including songs) in Hagen’s catalogue selected and arranged by Robert Frankenberry, Tryst was initially conceived as a ballet score and exists now as a suite of five movements ordered to loosely follow the emotional progress of an afternoon assignation. Two characters meet unexpectedly in Hellos. There is some sort of emotional connection achieved in The Understanding. Comes the candid, chilly reality of That Conversation, Again. A parting, a last look, regret, and then, a rush back in Making Up. The ebullience of shared happiness and the promise to meet again, in Afterwards.
